We're building a brand new engine shed for the Great Central Railway. We've already dismantled and moved an entire redundant building from Workington in Cumbria. Now we need to put it back together on a brown field site - and provide a rail connection. When complete it will provide a new 'heritage' home for our loco fleet and an incredible attraction for visitors in its own right.
This is the website for one of railway preservation's most exciting projects.
The Workington Shed reconstruction is a landmark preservation project. Bold, imaginative and groundbreaking, it will be a beacon for the worldwide Heritage industry. Once complete, it will not only provide jobs in Loughborough, it will put the town and the Great Central Railway on the worldwide Heritage tourist map, enhancing what is already Britain’s only preserved main line railway. Combining real benefits in terms of tourism, education and the creation of a unique industrial ‘vista’ for future generations, I have no hesitation in giving The Workington Shed Project my wholehearted support.
